Austin: I thought Sally was totally crazy by ripping the mountains up but made the card even awesome. I made the card to sent children in need and I think they are going to like it. What I felt when I was making it was fun and exiting. I enjoyed doing the watercoloured smooshing makes the mountain. I like the way the card is still looking awesome.
Sally: Hi, so we always end up making way more Christmas cards than we need to hand out, what can I say? Austin loves making Christmas cards 😊 Instead of throwing them out of anything like that we like to give cards to various card drives or charities that collect cards to give to people in hospital. This year in addition to the Caring Hearts card drive we do every year we also made cards for Cards for Hospitalized Kids & Post Pals which are two different charities that give cards to kids who are seriously sick. Austin is a really compassionate kiddo & loves to be able to help people & if he can do it with his cards all the better.
This card is one he designed specifically for giving to one of the card charities. It's a twist on one of his favourites, Santa riding a dragon delivering presents in front of a night sky. This is a softer, looser more....dreamlike version of this idea. Every part is watercoloured from the background to the mountains to the dragon which really softens everything.
As always, easy card to make, we don't really make a lot of complicated cards.
- First, loosely watercolour a background using Blueprint Sketch distress ink leaving one area lighter for the moon.
- Splash over some white gouache to mimic the look of snow.
- Stamp the flying dragon from the Mama Elephant Me and My Dragon stamp set and some small presents from another set using the Memento Rich Cocoa ink & then watercolour them. Fussy cut them leaving no border around the stamping.
- Onto some watercolour card stock 'smoosh' watercolour 5 pieces ombre-ing from Distress Ink in Chipped Sapphire, Faded Jeans & Stormy Sky. Die cut each piece using one of the mountain dies from Impression Obsession. Lightly rip the edges of each piece until it's the right size for the panel on the front of the card (totally optional, it just gives the piece a really beautiful soft look).
- Lightly flick some more white gouache over the background,
- Finally Stick on the fussy cut pieces & then finally heat emboss this sentiment from Lawn Fawn using gold embossing powder.
Also put away that blending brush because you aren't using it...whatever, it looked pretty lol.
Do you ever make cards for card drives? Have you ever received a card from anything like that?
Do you like dragons on cards as much as Austin does?
